What happens after you open the card? Some years, I've kept them in a basket in the living room so we can open them again and again. Other years, they've been displayed on shutters and windows and ribbons. This year, I put together something I've been trying to get to since 2008.
It took me this long to find a free night to do it, and of course it ended up taking very little time at all. These mini clothespins are all ready to clip this year's cards to ribbons in our living room, providing us with a display of our loved ones all in one place.
Here's the supplies. For years, I envisioned using little bird shapes, but had a heck of a time finding the right one. JoAnns had this pear punch on sale, and it's a stretch but I figured it went with the whole "Partridge in a Pear Tree" theme.
Making these is as easy as it looks. I simply used a section of washi tape {and hello, how did it take me this long to discover all the things to do with washi tape?} and placed it on each mini-clothespin
Then, using a paper punch, I punched out pear shapes from glitter scrapbook paper.
Glitter scrapbook paper: all the bling, none of the mess!
A little dot of glue, and...
Magic!
{okay, not really magic, but when you've been thinking of something this simple for 3 years it does feel a bit like magic when you actually get it done.}
Tiny Prints, one of my blog sponsors, has a fantastic selection of holiday cards for all those little clips to display {and some pretty cute address labels, as well). Here's a few I've fallen in love with:
And now that Pinterest is in town, it's easy to find additional ideas for displaying your cards. Here's a few I pinned over the past few weeks:
We can all tell when it's a Martha display, yes?
Blue Cricket Designs used the space she has-- her kitchen cabinets!
My girl Brittany over at Pretty Handy Girl jazzed up these now-festive shutters.
Wouldn't this display from Real Simple look nice with my pear pins?
I found this one on Pinterest but it's not sourced; any idea who to credit for it? It's beautiful!
How do you display your cards? Any memorable cards over the years? And be truthful, are your cards in the mail already? I'm such a slacker. I'll get them ordered one of these days...
Many thanks to Tiny Prints for providing cards for me to review. All opinions are, as always, 100% my own and I was not paid to publish positive reviews.

I have a "string" with clips from Ikea, but there aren't enough clips so I overload them and inevitably the whole thing falls down. I love your idea and simple instructions for making it. I've never heard of washi tape!
ReplyDeleteYou make everything look easy, but I think my craft impaired self could actually DO This! Also love the cabinet idea from Blue cricket Designs!
ReplyDeleteCute, cute, cute. Last year I used scrapbook paper to cover my clothes pins then glued them to an embroidery hoop. Now I'm thinking it needs an upgrade.
ReplyDeleteUber-super-duper cute! Love the stripes! And the cute fruit shapes. Well done.
