As for thrift store shopping, here's my new rule: for every trip to the thrift store I need to donate one bag of "stuff" to avoid my home being the next subject of Hoarders. So far this has worked well, I'm donating way more than I'm buying so it's a win-win for everyone involved. Here are a few of the things I scored during the loooooooong winter. Let's start with my vintage thrifty treasures today, and I'll share the newer thrifty treasures next week {and, if I find a few minutes, a few "after" photos}!
Faux Bamboo Magazine Rack ($3)
Need to decide which room this will live in (there are three different places I want to put it) before I spray paint to see if it will become oil rubbed bronze, turquoise, or green. Or maybe white. So many choices! Except brass. It is NOT staying that color.Napkin and Utensil Holder ($1)
Bought this as an easy way to cart utensils and napkins to our deck this summer. Going to add a coat of paint and something else-- stay tuned!Ceramic "Bamboo" Umbrella Stand ($8)
I forced myself to stand in the thrift store and brainstorm ideas for this before buying it because I could not let it go-- but didn't need an umbrella stand. Look where it fit, and what fit in it. Perfect!Bamboo Side Table ($5)
have you noticed a trend here? I'm a sucker for faux bamboo.
It started out looking like this:and ended looking like this after a few coats of glossy black spray paint:
I'll be honest, I wanted to do a bolder color but I couldn't find the perfect one. When I put the glossy black coat on it, it was perfect! I also sewed a piece of fabric to place under the glass but it looked better without so I scrapped that idea. Glad to have found such a handy little table.
Picnic Basket ($4)
I'd like to say it's been used for picture-perfect picnics on the lawn, but in truth it sits in our bathroom as an awesome toilet paper holder. We haven't run out of TP yet!Small White Plate/Tray ($4)
Picked this up on a whirlwind trip through an antique mall in Hershey while my husband stayed in the car with a sleeping Baby Bee. It's probably not vintage but I'm really into white ceramic lately and once I saw the basketweave pattern I had to have it.Black Alarm Clock ($4)
Not sure if this is vinatge or not. I thought it was due to the condition, but it looks an awful lot like the IKEA version. Except it's unmarked, so.... I don't know. Hey, it was only $4 and it looks good on the shelf. I'm not complaining.Lion's Head Bin ($1)
Don't judge it just yet-- close your eyes and picture it with a coat of creamy white paint. See it? Good. Hopefully I'll actually get it to look that way soon.Meaken Transfer Plate ($2.50)
I can't resist a cheap transferware plate despite the chip it has. It'll look great on our Thanksgiving table. You know how much I love to mix modern and vintage, I think this will look great on a mixed-era table.Glass Candle Holder/ Vase ($1)
When I saw this I thought it would be the perfect modern touch for my deck makeover. Can't you see it filled with sand and a candle inside? Or a huge poof of hydrangea? It's hard to tell from the photo, but it's pretty big-- about the size of a utensil holder.And.... milk glass. Found two vases for $1 each. I promise they are prettier in real life, this photo is terrible!

You found some great goodies, Carrie! Where to start ~ I could definitely see the magazine rack in Heirloom White. I'm on a kick with that paint lately, but I really love how it transforms everything. The utensil carrier - wonderful. So many different things you could do with that. The lion head, great find for $1.00. I can definitely see that creamy white. I have had a couple of wood pieces from Goodwill with those curves like this has on its edging and it just looks so good in the white.
ReplyDeleteLove your finds! I went thrifting today and it was SO fun. Good job! Also, with that napkin holder I can't resist the urge to say "put a bird on it!"...Can't wait to see what you do.

ReplyDeleteHI, Carrie, so glad you are excited about the party again this year. You found some great things that are going in my highlight recap next weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love using the picnic basket for bathroom tissue. Keeps it handy and out of sight! I've been looking around your blog and I like what I see. I will be back. The lions head bin is going to be stylin in white.
