{Welcome, Southern Hospitality readers! Be sure to check out our giveaway when you are done reading this post!}
It's a HOT one here today, folks, so what better way to beat the heat then head to two local thrift stores? I didn't score any huge treasures, but I did find something I've wanted for awhile so that was serendipitous.
First, let's see the old:
I paid $4.25 for that green depression glass cookie jar! I've been looking for one for years. They are worth a lot more than that if they have the lid, which mine does not. But it matches a depression glass platter handed down from my husband's grandmother, and I think it would look so lovely during the Christmas season filled with fresh white and red roses!
This cool vintage silver clutch caught my eye. Seriously, it would go with almost any dressy outfit. So chic!
ANOTHER set of 5 amazing dessert plates! I love the graphic nature of them. They would look amazing clustered together on a wall... a yellow wall... I can just picture it now...
The color of this scarf looks funky in this photo, but the green and black design is very striking. I love the fine lines and illustrations. It could be turned into something else-- framed, sewn into a pillow, used as gift wrap, tied around the handle of a purse... you name it!
Out with the old, and in with the NEW{er}. Here are my other scores from today:
The books on the left were .25 each. My daugter loves Spot books, and I had to get the copy of Arthur's Valentine. My copy is well-loved (I taught for 11 years) so this will replace it nicely. As I was leaving, I picked up The Bunny Book and found this:
As for the clothing, the two long-sleeved 12 month onesies were $1.75 each. This sweater was $2.50, and I had to have it once I saw that cute purple collar with the bow:
How could I pass up these pink pants {at $1.75} with a grosgrain ribbon "belt" and eyelet at the bottom?
What would you say if I told you the entire haul cost just $22 total? For that amount, I got:
6 books
9 vintage dessert plates
1 vintage purse
6 pieces of children's clothing
1 depression glass cookie jar
1 vintage scarf
6 books
9 vintage dessert plates
1 vintage purse
6 pieces of children's clothing
1 depression glass cookie jar
1 vintage scarf
I think I got some fun stuff, but most importantly my daughter and I were able to beat the August heat. And THAT'S how we make lemonade, people!
Did anything catch your eye? Did I pay too much for those onesies? Would you buy a lid-less cookie jar? And, HOW CUTE is that bunny book? What do you look for at thrift/consignment shops: new{er} things? older things? Go ahead, let it all out in the comments below!

The pattern of your cookie jar base is Princess and it was made by Hocking Glass in the 1930s. It is pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the identification of the pattern, Kathy! I was wondering which pattern it was but was too lazy to drag out the depression glass books. I wish it had a lid, but I know that's why I was able to get it for such little $$$. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty things!
ReplyDeleteVery nice things, Carrie! I am so sorry to hear about the tough times you have had with your baby. But, I sure like your attitude. Thanks for stopping by the party.

Well, since I have a fascination with plates and dinnerware, I have to say those finds are my favorites! Love that the black/white would go so well against yellow or turquoise- how classic!
